Man I miss The Fugees. They had a presence and chemistry that very few groups nowadays can match.
My week was infused with some goodness right at the very beginning. Yesterday I’d received news that I’m going to be an aunt! I’m super excited to meet my nephew later this year, and I actually got some writing done yesterday as well. I’ve been playing with the idea of writing a tv pilot, so I mapped out some notes and the beginnings of an outline. We’ll see how it goes.
In pressing news, I’ve got a semi-deadline from my publisher on my newest chapter of my novel, so I hope I don’t disappoint. I’ve got to make sure I set aside some days to write it out. Hope your week is infused with some creative goodness!
I’ve had the biggest crush on Raphael Saadiq for the longest time, and used to listen to Tony, Toni, Toné all the time while growing up. When he went solo, this was my favorite song of his. I hope one day to meet him, and try not to fangirl too much on him!
While I wasn’t able to make it to Wondercon this year, I still took some days off from work and it was very relaxing. I’d managed to get a lot organized, and found more scripts to download and read. Today’s for working on my pilot script. I’ve got a bunch of ideas, just got to put them in some sort of order.
What are you guys working on this week?
I’d recently bought a book from Barnes and Noble called 300 Writing Prompts, and the first one was, “Write down your favorite ways to spend a lazy day.”
When I first heard this song, I was in middle school. And I’m sure it was due to my sheltered upbringing, but I had no idea what they were talking about. What I knew is that all the girls in my grade wanted to be as fly as Mary J. Blige.
I remember watching a show on MTV– back when they did actual reporting on music– and some exec wanted Lauryn Hill to sing the hook on this song. But Lyor Cohen [president of Island Def Jam Music Group] was like “…nah.” I think Mary J.’s vocals are the best for this song anyways.
I’ve been watching the Unsung marathon for the past few days and I’ve been trying to decide which should be this week’s choice. But while cleaning up my YT favorites playlist, I remembered this. So I present to you my theme song. Enjoy!
Bye-bye November –or Movember– hello, December!
I can’t believe that it’s December already– time has really flown by this year. No seriously– anyone else feel like this year has just completely flown by? Feels like it was just September, I sneezed and now it’s December.
I completed another NaNoWriMo challenge and my draft is utter trash. But then again, it’s suppose to be. Besides writing and working, I’ve been looking at some other projects to consider, which I’m really excited about. I’m getting into the habit of doing yoga everyday. I’ve been doing it for a couple of months, but it hasn’t been everyday. I’m 2 days in so I’m hoping to keep it up. Not too much, but at least Sun Salutation everyday.
I’m aiming that 2016 will be as productive, if not more, as this year. I’ve got a couple of interviews for the blog coming up this week so stay tuned!
This was another song on Biggie’s CD that was my favorite. Unfortunately when I bought it, I didn’t know that this song was the remix of his original and therefore not on the album. This was the version the radios played all the time so it was very misleading. But enjoy! Who can name all the cameos?
Biggie was and still remains my favorite hip-hop artist. His 1st album, Ready to Die, was my 1st CD purchase. I was so excited the day I went to Sam Goody (really dating myself here!) and bought it. And I got the explicit version too! So much for those warning labels. This was my favorite song on the album, so enjoy!
What was your 1st CD?
Sharing this because ODB’s birthday had passed about a couple of days ago. Growing up, I wasn’t allowed to listen to this, or anything else that had curse words or sexual language in it so you can call me a late bloomer when it came to Wu-Tang. As I get more comfortable in my creative self, I appreciate OBD a little more as an artist. Shame we won’t get to see what he could have created had he survived. Rest well Russell Jones.
I know, I know. Halloween has passed, but strangely this song was on my mind today so I wanted to share the video. I’ll also admit that when I was a kid, this video used to scare the shit outta me and I couldn’t watch it. Now, I’m ok (I think).
In keeping with my (newly) Monday tradition, I’ve finished reading a book and am starting a new one. So by this Wednesday, I’ll put up a review and my thoughts on Grey, and I’m starting to read The Narrow Road to the Deep North. I hope to have that review up in a couple of weeks, if I like it past the first 2 chapters.
Have a great week guys!
